ROCHESTER, NY, U.S.A. – Sal Cardella, Product Marketing Manager, AMETEK Power Instruments in conjunction with AMETEK GB Ltd, is delighted to announce that AMETEK has been awarded the 5-year framework agreement for substation monitors; supplying the DR-300 series Fault Recorder to Northern Ireland, on behalf of Northern Ireland Electricity Networks Limited (NIE Networks). Regional Sales Manager, Sean Gardener, works closely with UK & EU Utilities including NIE Networks and was instrumental in facilitating this agreement.

The project to update and install the Digital Fault Recorders (DFRs) into new and existing substations throughout Northern Ireland’s transmission and distribution network will begin with orders and equipment delivery in the fall of 2020.

NIE Networks owns the regulated electricity transmission and distribution network in Northern Ireland and is responsible for the construction and maintenance of the entire network, as well as the planning, development, control and operation of the distribution network.

The NIE Networks transmission and distribution network is comprised of several interconnected networks of overhead lines and underground cables which provides electricity to approximately 860,000 customers through close to 300 major substations. NIE Networks transmission system is connected to the transmission system in the Republic of Ireland through 275kV and 110kV interconnectors and to the transmission system in Scotland via the Moyle Interconnector.

Over the next 5-years, AMETEK and NIE will work together to deliver, install and deploy several hundred DR-300s units. Upgrading outdated equipment will give the substations the ability to meet the demands of today's ever-evolving utility market. The DR-300 has multi-functional capabilities, scalability and future proof design.

Features include dynamic disturbance recording & logging, high-speed transient recording & logging, sequence of events recording, continuous transient oscillography, power quality logging with harmonics (up to 128th and inter harmonics). These features can be leveraged to not only meet traditional power generation requirements but set the standard for renewable energy markets like wind and solar.
